Does anybody know of an electric kettle, preferably .5-1qt, very preferably metal or glass body (more accurately, "not plastic"), which doesn't quite turn 'off' when the water boils, as most do, but would switch to a 'keep warm' mode, that would either keep reboiling it as needed or, preferably, apply a lower level of heat so it just gets cold slower?

(granted, this would require it to be able to tell when the water has all gone away, rather than just switching off when it detects a certain temperature, but it's not a hard thing to do)

The "hot pot" I bought when I moved into the dorms, and which finally bit the dust a few years ago, fit that description. Aluminum body, and a simple thermostat — once the water boiled away, it would happily keep regulating the temperature of the bottom of the empty container...

I really gotta get a moomin icon one of these years. I had a couple of hattifattener email addresses once upon a time, and my mostly fallow (and now concluded) grad school journal was [livejournal.com profile] mimble.

Every room in Japan had exactly what you described, for on-demand green tea.

They were made by that manufacturer who uses an elephant in their logo.
