So, today is my first day back at work after almost 3.5 weeks off. I didn't want to come back.

28 August is my 5th amazoniversary. People leaving after their initial stock grant vests completely is so traditional it's a joke. I decided, while I was out, that as of 28 August (actually 29 August, the following monday), I am starting a job search. I don't necessarily want to leave amazon, but I definitely need to see if there are any greener pastures out there anywhere.

On the other hand... this:
Marty,

Jordan noticed your "The Customer is Always Stupid" sign and asked that we take it down.

I know it was meant in jest, but it is not the kind of message we want to send.

Hope you aren't offended. If you weren't out for weeks, I would have waited until Tuesday and asked you in person

Thanks,
Brian
has me a little irked. I put the sign back up. If it becomes an issue, I'm currently considering a response of "I'll be happy to take /all/ of my signs down, if you like. Do you know where I can find a supply of moving boxes? I've got a lot of stuff to pack.". I've had that sign up on the wall behind me, wherever that wall may be, for at least three years. It's the single most important guiding principle of website design /ever/.

So, today I am not a happy camper, really.

New Sign Suggestion:

The customer is always smarter than marketing.

You could always go with, "The Customer and Marketing are equally intelligent."

If you have a door, you could always put it on the back of the door. That way, the only way the stuffy types would see it is if they were in your office when you had the door closed. And really, who wants to close the door when there's a stuffy type in the room?

Unfortunately, I have a glass door. It would be /more/ visible if I stuck it inside.

No, I'll just put it back up and wait for someone to make a stink or back down.

Perhaps email me when you get a chance and we can chat? I've got some stuff that might be of interest.

Please don't leave *beg* *plead* You could come back to gifting, help Jake and me protect wishlists.

On the sign thing, replace the one behind you with The Customer is Smarter than Marketing and put the one behind you on the backside of your door.

Especially for Jordan. I was surprised and disappointed.

I thought... don't you work somewhere where actual customers don't ever, y'know, actually come *in*?

'Cause if that's the case, you might try pointing that out. "not the message we want to send"... to WHOM?
