It's the little things that make a difference. A tiny little bug in safari has pushed me over to using Firefox as my main browser on Sedna. On the invitee-editor of the invitotron, there's a list of the invitees in the database. With a dropdown to filter them by groups. If I select certain groups, the image buttons next to the drop down don't render when the page loads. Other groups they do. Rename the <select> tag, it still happens. Remove the <select> tag, it works normally (except, of course, I can't change the filter). So, hell with it. Browser bug, switch to firefox.

Firefox on mac lacks some features that safari has that I really like. Command-down takes you to the end of the page. This is important, as the end key if Function-right, and requires two hands. cmd-down is a single-handed command. Things like that. Also, if several tabs have a common prefix in the <title>, safari will strip it. So, say a tab "Amazon.com: foo" and "Amazon.com: bar", the tab titles would be "foo" and "bar", which is nice, 'cause you can see the meaningful part of the title, instead of "Amazon.co...". Things like that.

Ah well, I'll live.

In other news, my RSI in the right hand is acting up again. Damnit.
And the usual things I do to fix it aren't helping. Gonna stretch for a bit, then get back to work. Fortunately, I'm waiting on something before I can resume work.

The home improvement run continues. Statewide is doing a thing this month wherein they're giving a special discount on any window contracts signed before the end of the year. So Gavin came out again tonight, priced out the windows in the bunker (which we've long since decided was the next phase of window replacement), and gave us a new estimate. Between the $458 extra off for doing it now and the various other discounts he's already put together for us brought the total price down from $11+k to $7,888 after taxes. A total of 8 windows in 6 openings, including uncovering the window in the north wall that some previous owner covered over (really. from outside you can see the window, and thru it to the inside of the wall.). Two solid windows for the little openings, two double hungs, and two twin double hungs (two windows in a single large opening, like we have in the sunroom).

So this will be a very good thing. Should take care of a lot of the thermal problems in my office, and make it possible to move the servers up there (as soon as we take care of the electrical problem). And hopefully I can throw the next round of stock options vests at it pretty hard. 10 year financing is nice on the monthly payments, but paying them off will make it easier to do round three (I'm quite keen to get the bedrooms done next). Or we could start looking at redoing the roof (which desperately needs it, and the estimate we got for it would include recreating the original roofline on the existing structure, which should seriously help the house's value). I'm thinking new front/back doors are next, tho. Desperately need them.

I like my window salesman. He used to work for K2, he's a former chemical engineer, he has stories about harvesting opium poppies and cheating Microsoft. And he has good suggestions for interesting drinks.

He brought us a bottle of very-top-shelf tequila. How many window salesmen bring people booze?
Still haven't made it out on his boat. Maybe in the summer.
