I want to buy an iPod. But, instead of doing that, I moved all my spare money into my savings account. We (read 'I') now have about $900 saved up for the hot tub enclosure. I need about $6000 to pay it off completely, and if I finance it, I'd like it to be for as litttle as possible (given we're still paying on the windows, and loree's got a car payment now, and etc etc etc).

And then, somebody on the for-sale list at work is offering a Fiat. I don't need another car, I have better things to spend money on, but it's a FIAT. Most of you may not understand what this means. Those of you who do, I trust you understand the pain that comes with not buying a Fiat that is suddenly available, in working condition, and cheap.

Anybody want to make a substantive donation to the gazebo fund?

Monique Junot, that would be.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] datavore, you know I'd contribute construction skills to the gazebo project, right?

fiat x1/9

My oldest brother had one when I was too young to drive, and it is probably one of the reasons I like really small sports cars (I'm currently lusting after the Lotus Elise).

Pluses (I'm not claiming expertise, any or all of this info could be wrong)
Small, good handling, decent acceleration, a really good choice for autocrossing/track days/weekend drives

minus
You should probably buy 3 (one to drive, 2 for parts) and start sleeping with a mechanic. low top speed

What year and how much did they want for it?

To quote the ad:
I recently bought a 1979 Fiat for $500 to get around in but the person who I was going to sell my other car to bailed so now I am stuck with 2 cars. For Sale is a 1979 Fiat 1/9 Targa Top. It is in pretty good condition. It runs and drives. The radio works, air, windows. Seats are in impeccable condition. If you need a cheap car to get around, in or like these little cars, this ones for you. If interested, email me for pictures. I need to sell it asap.

When I asked what color it was, he said It is kinda an orange/red. and pointed me to www.hulet.blogspot.com

Pity it's not a little cheaper. Pity it's a manual. I'd love to (have someone else) paint the Midgard logo on the hood or a door or something.

It's kinda disturbing how much it looks like a Porche 914.

my dad had a fiat 128. two in fact, since it was such a piece of shit that we neded a parts car when we went through the first parts car there was a second. having replaced a fiat transmission, most of the insanely crappy electrical system, etc etc all i can say is good luck.
worst. car. evah.

Yeah, but.. it's a /fiat/. I'm a /wizard/. I NEED A FIAT. ::)

It's not like I'd trust it enough to drive it.

Clearly I was unclear. I did /not/ buy the fiat. I express pain at not buying it.

Now, if it was $200, and red, I'd be ALL over it. I /need/ a little red wizardly fiat.
