It dawned on me this morning that the weekly Finn's gathering is what became of my idea for family dinner. Since those never really materialized, I started doing this instead. And even to this, turnout is rarely what I'd hoped it would be. It seems kinda pointless half the time.

Well, it's loud, smoky, reeks of alcohol, and requires money to participate. :) Each of those are frequently considered drawbacks, though which is more problematic varies by individual. Not sure what the solution is, short of hosting meals at a house. (Which has other drawbacks, including cooking and cleaning). I'd recommend deciding who your core group is, which people you *really* want to have participate, and figuring out what works for them. And possibly switching to a bi-monthly or monthly thing rather than weekly. :)

Good luck.

I like the weekly aspect of it. It's something else to look forward to at the end of a long week.

The bar isn't my favorite place either, although I don't seem to mind... someone's house (not mine, as it's quite small) would be good.
